May Update

Yearbooks: The tentative distribution will be May 30, 2018 at the Senior Class Breakfast. Questions about the yearbook should be directed to yearbook@slrsd.org.
Senior Awards Program: The annual Senior Awards Program will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2018, at 7:00 PM in the auditorium. Many scholarships and individual awards will be presented. While all members of the Class of 2018, and their parents, are invited to attend, students receiving an award will be sent an invitation one week in advance. Participation is voluntary but students and parents are encouraged to attend. Proper dress is required. Jeans, t-shirts, shorts, and hats are not appropriate.

Obligations: Please satisfy any outstanding obligations (owed books, discipline hours, etc.) by Thursday, May 31, 2018 at 2:00 PM. Students with unsatisfied obligations will not be permitted to participate in graduation ceremonies. Guidance counselors and administrators will notify students in advance of any obligation that need to be fulfilled. All obligations must be cleared with the Main Office.

Graduation Rehearsals: Graduating seniors must attend all scheduled graduation rehearsals. Anyone who must be excused from a rehearsal must secure permission in advance from Mrs. Pratt or Mr. Blette. Failure to attend, unless you have prior permission to be absent, will result in withdrawing you from the graduation ceremony. Promptness at rehearsals and your undivided attention will mean shorter and more efficient rehearsals. All rehearsals are scheduled from 8:30 – 10:30 AM. Seniors must make all the necessary arrangements to be in attendance during the entire rehearsal. Graduation rehearsals are scheduled as follows:

Tuesday, May 29, 2018
Thursday, May 31, 2018
Friday, June 1, 2018 (if necessary)

Senior Class Meeting & Breakfast: May 30, 2018 is scheduled as a class meeting for seniors. The morning activities begin at 8:30 AM in the Cafeteria and will include the following:

Senior Class Meeting/Breakfast
Yearbook distribution
A review of graduation procedures
Final check out and senior dismissal
Cap, gown and graduation ticket distribution.

Once seniors are dismissed, at approximately 10:00 AM, they must leave school premises, unless they are participating in the Senior Parade. Seniors should not visit classes unless they have permission from an administrator. Please do not visit the middle school or elementary schools as this would be disruptive to them. Your cooperation in this matter is most important and greatly appreciated.

Senior Parade: The second annual Senior Parade will take place on May 31, 2018, right after rehearsal. Members of the Class of 2018 willl have the opportunity to parade through the high school and middle school halls before taking a bus to visit their elementary school (there will be a different bus for each town). Students will have a chance to walk through the schools while the younger students give high fives and teachers cheer them on! Last year the hallways were outfitted with posters and banners congratulating students! We'll take a group photo in front of each school before returning back to SLRHS. We ask that if your student would like to participate in this event to please pick up a field trip form from the main office. Forms will also be available when they purchase their prom tickets. To sign up, please return a signed permission slip to the main office by May 18, 2018

Report Cards: Term 4 report cards will be issued to seniors on May 31, 2018 at the rehearsal.

Graduation: Silver Lake Regional High School wishes to recognize your academic achievement by honoring you, and your class, through a meaningful, dignified graduation ceremony. With this in mind, it is most important to satisfy all of your final obligations: academic, community service hours, disciplinary, and financial, in order to participate in the commencement exercises. Your participation in the commencement exercises is voluntary. However, by participating, you signify agreement to abide by established procedure. If you do not wish to participate in Commencement Exercises, you must indicate this in writing to Mrs. Pratt or Mr. Blette by Friday, May 11, 2018. Forms are available in the main office. Graduation will take place on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at 11:00AM on Sirrico Field.

Graduation Dress: The graduation ceremony is a momentous and professional occasion. Students who participate in the ceremony are expected to wear their red cap and gown, purchased through Jostens. Students should wear appropriate dress clothes underneath their gown. Beach attire, sneakers, and flip flips are prohibited.  Any adornments or writing on graduation caps must be school appropriate. Any adornment deemed offensive or inappropriate by an administrator will not be permitted to be worn for the ceremony. Students will be provided with a Silver Lake stole to wear at graduation. These are on loan and need to be returned immediately following the graduation ceremony. Collections stations will be set up at each of the exits following graduation. We encourage families to hang these up ahead of time to help with eliminate any wrinkles from being placed in storage. Please note that stoles can be steamed, but not ironed.

Graduation Conduct: It is expected that you conduct yourself with dignity and respect. Please remember your obligation to your parents, fellow classmates, friends and the school during this ceremony.

Graduation Tickets: All graduating seniors will receive three tickets along with their cap and gown. Tickets will not be needed if the ceremony is conducted outdoors. Tickets are needed only in the event of an indoor graduation. If necessary, indoor graduation ceremony will be held in the gymnasium. Closed-circuit viewing of both inside and outside graduation will be available in the auditorium as well for family members without tickets or who wish to remain out of the elements.

Graduation Portraits: Visit events.lifetouch.com to signup and receive notification when proofs from graduation are online and ready to order. All students will be photographed, photos will be online tend days after the ceremony, complimentary proofs can be mailed to graduates and there is no obligation to purchase the portraits. Personalized keepsakes are also available.

Student Records: We are enclosing a copy of your Certificate of Immunization, which can be kept by you for future use. We will also make available, upon request, all of the materials in your temporary guidance record. Please let the guidance department know if you want these records. You can pick them up the week of June 25, 2018. Temporary records, (all materials except transcripts) will be destroyed beginning July 2, 2018.
